Ka'ala and I became close friends a couple of years ago. We spent the day together with her 3 kids and my 1, and from that day on we literally have not gone more than a day or two without being in contact with each other.
She and I have a history with sweets. We've always been drawn to some sort of baking projects. For me it really started this last year, which was a difficult one. Unfortunately, we lost a son when I was 6 months pregnant. And needless to say we were heartbroken. It really took it's toll. Everyday was an enormous struggle to be a wife and mom without just staying in bed and hiding, hoping the hurt would just go away. We had so much love and support from family and friends. I went away for the weekend to visit my family. While I was there my mom, of Dana's Creations (she has a link on our blog), was getting so into cupcakes. It got me HOOKED. I mean REALLY, a beautiful, fluffy, and pretty ball of deliciousness! Who can resist? And for the first time in a long, long time, I had excitement, inspiration, and motivation! It was a great feeling.
So needless to say I came home bursting with ideas I couldn't wait to share with Ka'ala, who, without us even talking, was also wanting to do cupcakes. (great minds think alike) Not for a business, but for the fun and the yum of it! So that's where we started, and then.... one day, I came across cake pops and couldn't sleep for days because my brain was swarming with ideas that I couldn't wait to put into action.
Then shortly after that, Ka'ala showed me some pics of royal icing cookies. I was speechless, really! Could we? Should we? attempt to make such a thing, and and would it be worth sharing/eating? Oh yes we should!!! From then on it's all happened really fast. With lots of research, and trial and error (still).... we are learning, and LOVING every minute of it! I work full time and it's difficult to stay balanced with all my priorities, but for the first time I actually have a hobby that I'm willing to sleep for only 2hrs, then stay up all night, go to work, and then do it all over again! I've had chronic pain since I was a child, and that has interfered with most activities that I've wanted to do over the years. I've had to understand my physical limitations and find other outlets. And I finally feel like I've found my niche!
